Advocates and individuals with Down Syndrome celebrate ‘World Down Syndrome Day’

Tuesday was World Down Syndrome Day – a day to raise awareness and celebrate individuals in our community with Down Syndrome.

Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 got to speak to several people in the Pittsburgh area Tuesday night who advocate for people with Down Syndrome.

Executive Director of the Down Syndrome Association of Pittsburgh, Meredith Peterson said the United Nations established this holiday as March 21 for a reason.

“March 21 signifies 3, 2, 1 because three copies of the 21st chromosome equal down syndrome,” Peterson said.
